World of Science Seminars 1999

The Murray Hill Science Education Club sponsors a series of lecture-demonstrations each year. These lectures are given by members of technical staff at Bell Laboratories and are designed for high school students and teachers. Any other interested individuals are also welcome. Each lecture is held at 10:00 on Saturday morning in the Bell Laboratories Murray Hill Auditorium and lasts approximately one hour. There is a question and answer period following the seminar. The lecture schedule in 1999 is:

February 6: Bill Cheswick
"The Internet: What It Looks Like, How It Works and How People Abuse It"

(abstract) (PowerPoint)

February 20: Lloyd Harriott
"Why Chips Keep Getting Better, Faster, and Cheaper"

(abstract)

March 6: Ralph Taylor-Smith
"The Greening of Industry: Environmentally-Conscious Manufacturing"

(abstract)

March 27: Jane LeGrange
"Flying Photons"

(abstract)

April 17: Tony Tyson
"Dark Matter in the Universe"

Video of the 1998 series is online, if you would like to see last year's lectures. The seminar series goes back to 1984, but we don't have tapes of those lectures.
