Pattern Recognition in Astronomy and Astrophysics

Introduction
IAPR-TC13 on Pattern Recognition in Astronomy and Astrophysics is one of the official Technical Committees of the International Association for Pattern Recognition. IAPR-TC13 aims to promote interaction and collaboration among researchers working in computer science as well as in astronomy and astrophysics; and this in relation with the increasing integration in an astronomical setting of various methodologies in pattern recognition, information retrieval and data analysis, characteristic of modern computational astronomy.
Topics of interest for IAPR-TC13 mainly concern sophisticated image analysis and pattern recognition methods, information retrieval technology, data fusion problems, large image databases and archives, new paradigms in data handling and interpretation, advanced computer architectures.
Generally speaking, the objectives of the IAPR-TC13 are:
- cross fertilization between computer scientists and astronomers, in order to realize a better link between theory and practice;
- coordination of activities which are continually increasing in the area of pattern recognition applied to astronomy and astrophysics;
- achieving fast and wide information flow in the pattern recognition community.
