Other solvers that work with AMPL

Prices for AMPL and solvers are set by individual vendors, and may vary according to the type of computer used. Special prices for AMPL/solver packages, multiple licenses, and academic use are available on request. Support contracts, training, and consulting are also available from some vendors.

The AMPL Student Edition, packaged with all copies of the AMPL book, is a full-featured PC version of the AMPL modeling environment and the MINOS 5.5 and CPLEX 6.5.3 solvers. Problem size is limited to 300 variables and 300 constraints and objectives, after any reductions make by AMPL's presolve phase. The Student Edition is often useful for demonstration and evaluation purposes, as well as for instruction. Other arrangements for demonstration copies of AMPL and solvers can be made with individual vendors.

The first table below lists vendors who can supply AMPL along with one or more solvers. The second table lists additional vendors of solvers that work with AMPL. If your favorite solver does not appear here, you or the solver's developer may be able to make the solver work with AMPL by writing a suitable driver. See our instructions on hooking your solver to AMPL for details.
